Did you know that his fans are running a campaign to make December 12 World Style Day? It all began as a post in a popular social networking website and fans from across the world have taken up the call. There are also reports that his fans are going to request Madame Tussauds to consider making a wax statue for their 'Thalaivar'

Come December 12, and fans across the world celebrate the birthday of their one and only superstar - Rajnikanth. We do a quick flashback too

Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, Rajnikanth grew up in Bangalore. He did various jobs, including a stint with the Transport Corporation before taking up acting

From various state awards to the Padma Bhushan, awards and praise have come this actor's way many times. He is one of the most influential people in South Asia according to Asiaweek

Be it 'Badshah', 'Annamalai', 'Arunachalam', 'Muthu', 'Padayappa' or 'Baba', a Rajni movie is a sure shot blockbuster. Like his earlier movies, his 'Sivaji : The Boss' was a grosser too, both in the national and international markets

SP Muthuraman revamped Rajni's image when he cast him in a positive role in 'Bhuvana oru Kelvikkuri'. Missing were the mannerisms which had by then became his trademark. This movie was a turning point for Rajni the actor. He proved that he can make his audience weep and not just enthrall them with his antics

From anti - hero to hero and a super-duper star, Rajnikanth's journey continued. He acted in various Tamil and Kannada movies before making a Bollywood debut with 'Andha Kanoon'

It was in 1974 that Rajnikanth joined the Madras Film Institute. He made his debut in 'Apoorva Ragangal' directed by K Balachander. Though Kamal Hassan walked away with the accolades for the movie, Rajnikanth's 15 minute role was noticed too

He decided to quit acting, but was coaxed back into the mainstream. Billa happened, followed by 'Pokkiri Raja',' Thanikkattu Raja', 'Naan Mahaan Alla' and 'Moondru Mugham' in which he did a triple role. Each one a blockbuster

Unlike other actors of the day, Rajni always had mass appeal. He is a common man's hero. His dialogues play on every other person's lips; his actions are imitated by young and old alike

And his fans go ahead and celebrate his birthday with special prayers, even if the actor does not approve of it. We celebrate too!
